Orthopaedic Surgeons specialize in treating patients with injury or disease of bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, or skin. The scope of orthopaedics includes fractures, dislocations, sprains, strains, tears of muscles, tendons, or soft tissues, and arthritis of the joints in both children and adults. In the treatment of these disorders, orthopaedic surgeons may employ medical, physical, and rehabilitative methods as well as surgical methods.

Physician assistants are health care professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. PAs conduct physical exams and are qualified to diagnose and treat a wide range of musculoskeletal disorders, including, shoulder, elbow, hand, hip, and knee pain. They order and interpret tests, counsel on preventive health care, assist in surgery, and write prescriptions. A physician assistant is qualified to provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services. A PA's practice includes education, research, and administrative services. |
